Summary of ALOUD
Dallas Area Drug Prevention Partnership (DADPP)
DADPP is an outgrowth of the Cheese/Heroin Task Force, founded in March 2007. Originally this task force was established solely to address the community crisis of Dallas youth abusing and dying from the use of cheese/heroin, the often lethal combination of black tar heroin and nighttime cold medicine. In January of 2008, the Task Force decided by official vote that it would work toward the goal of transforming itself into a permanent Dallas area drug coalition. Now DADPP continues to aggressively tackle youth heroin abuse, but is also working to reduce the incidence and impact of alcohol and other drug abuse among youth. The coalition is comprised of concerned citizens, law enforcement personnel, educators, substance abuse prevention and treatment professionals, health care providers and government officials that have joined forces and are facilitating accurate data collection, parent and student education, media messages, and community outreach.
